Best Week Ever

Yes, I'm fully aware that my birthday is only July 18th. But man, did I celebrate ALL last week!
1st of all, I haven't worked since... I don't know the week before my bday?
Friday, July 15, we had my sister Erin, her boyfriend Andrew, and my sisters Nori and Xavi staying over.
Saturday, July 16, we spent the day in Irvine for the Aquino Family Homecoming... yummy food and crazy Aquino Cousins talent show. You gotta love it. The tradition of the talent show/program has been around for over 3 generations now... it's kind of a big deal!
Sunday, the family all went to go see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... sneakin' in Wonka brand candies-- of course! That night, we had even MORE people staying at our place: sister Nori, James, and Rolo. Joe's sister, Brenna, met up with us and we went to Reggae Gold in Century City for a good 45 minutes.
Monday, the day of my bday was pretty chill. We went to Melrose to shop for my bday 'fit and chill at the beach with my mom, sister Nori, boyfriend Joe and friend Sean. That night, we all went to my FAVORITE club in LA... "Respect Mondays" at The Room on Cahuenga. My girl Oakason, was celebrating her own bday and put on a big, fat birthday bashment. I couldn't believe that 50 of my buddies came through... it was pretty much off the chain! That night, my buddies from Sac came back to my house and hung out 'til 5 am or so... That time we had oh, 9-10 houseguests!?
Tuesday, I had a job interview that I was CLEARLY ill prepared for... er, let's not talk about that... but I headed back to Irvine to get my little sis Xavi, and my family surprised me with a mountain of cupcakes! Just like I wanted to bake for myself! MMMMmmm... strawberry cupcakes, too!
Wednesday, I had the girls and Sean staying over... pretty cool. We went shopping for books for them to read on the train going back home to Sac. We had a nice, quiet dinner with 7 guests... Sean, Nori, Xavi, Wayne, LaTasha, Albina, Ana, plus our roomie Julie.
Thursday, I took the girls to the train station with a load of snacks and books. Unfortunately for them, the train took 16 hours. But it WAS a scenic route along the coastline... My Sactown homie, Mike (the Superstar) brought his whole crew and what-not over for Joe's Jerk Chicken dinner and pretty much camped out in my living room... all 5 of 'em... the band, the girlfriend, and the New Yorker.
Friday, I had to pick up my buddy, Jansen, from the airport. It was pretty cool to bring him home for a Filipino Breakfast feast of chicken and pork longanisa, scrambled egg, and coconut rice... and then THEY ALL LEFT!
Whew! There you have it! My bday week~ "The Best Week Ever" as they would say on VH1... that was until Joe and I had our "Anniversary Week".

I've been initiated!

So here goes...
"It" happened. The thing that all comedians dread, and yet all comedians experience. I bombed in the seediest club in Hollywood.
All of my comedian compatriates said it was bound to happen. They say your first time, you kill (do well), then your 2nd time you almost always bomb (do poorly)... I was so afraid of bombing my 2nd time that I actually studied my own vcd of myself, rehearsed in front of the mirror, all that...
So my 3rd time's a bomb! I understand what happens. A comic gets their 1st success and gets pretty cocky... so cocky that they go on without rehearsal or even connecting with the audience. I rested on my laurels and couldn't get up...
What a place to bomb... blue neon lights... mirrors everywhere you look... it was like a strip club. Faizon Love of Elf and Friday was there to host the show... if I did well, I could have plugged my comedy show...
I've heard comedians say that you're not a true comedian unless you've bombed and got back up again. At least now I can say that I'm a comedian.
Faizon says, "Don't quit your day job..."

What I love about my life

What I love about my life (in random order):

Myspace/myspace blogs... I love expressing myself here where friends/family/complete strangers can connect!

Living in LA... where I've made friends that are my "local family"

My height I cursed it as a teenager, but Im so thankful for it when I'm at a packed concert!

Being a woman. I guess I couldve worn makeup and heels even as a boy, but, yeah I enjoy being a girl! I have the best luck with cops, bartenders, customer service

Being Filipino. Maybe I chose to be Filipino last lifetime. Our culture has the only stereotype being hospitable. Not too shabby!

My sense of humor its kept me able to laugh (at myself mostly) and has kept me alive for almost 26 years now.

Being single... being my own woman.

My relatives part of being Filipino is being close to all 10,000,000 some odd relatives. I have some odd relatives! Im so blessed to have cousins like Kitty and Patrick. Theyre like playmates that God made sure were a part of my life from the beginning!

My sisters as the oldest, I always thought that Eri, Nori, and Xavi were born simply for my amusement. Now I know that I was born to laugh and learn with them.

My parents My mom, my best friend, my role model for living La Vie en Rose taking pleasure in style. My Pops, my hero and role model for crazy self-expression and making people laugh.

What do YOU love about your life?

Strep-On Action

I just came back from the doc's office... he thinks that I've got strep throat. Yay, drugs! So I'm not crazy... I really am sick. I'm bundling myself up in blankets and having lotsa fluids. Can I just say that this'll be the last blog about being sick?!
Joe and I walked through a farmers' market in Century City today. We bought some funky fruits like blood oranges and strawberries. It was nice to actually get out, but I sure did work up a sweat just walking.

Lent Is Over in 4 Days

So yeah, I gave up alcohol AND cursing for lent. This did NOT come in handy when I decided to have my 1st stand-up comedy show. There was no "liquid courage" to get me on stage, no curse words to use as a crutch... It was me, myself, and I... pretty crazy.

Last year, I gave up cheese for lent. Not a sacrifice you say? Well, try eating pizza in under 20 minutes when you're picking it off bit by bit... Last Easter, the 1st thing I ate after Easter Mass was a big, fat order of mozzarella sticks... oh yeah!
I realize now that on Sunday I can curse up a storm, get stinkin drunk and it's all good... Y'know, I don't think I'm gonna curse on stage. At least not for right now. But come Easter Sunday, I think I'll have a little cab with my supper.
That's all for now... Happy Easter everyone!
