What Memory Serves Me
By KalydaSPOKE
It's just so bittersweet
That we had to leave things
So incomplete
"The timing was off"
And yet our hearts matched
Beat-for-beat
And if my memory serves me
It's been serving up some memories
Of you and me
Of us laughing together
And it's been on repeat and repeat
It's like I changed my address
To that spot on your chest
Where I used to lay my head
As we watched movies and
YouTube clips
From your Batzmaru bed
A thousand kisses
That you promised in a text
You delivered
And started on my neck
Those days on your calendar
If my memory serves me
They're marked with exes
Every which way from here to Texas
Lovin' leavin' both of us breathless
Yes this
Was physical and more
It was like the comfort in your arms
Gave me the freedom to snore
And that's nearly a miracle
But if my memory serves me
It's been serving up some memories
Before you was heartbreak and disappointment
So you can see why I'd be so reluctant
I gave and gave
With little or no reciprocity
But hey
That's just what my memory
has been serving me
And for you
Oddly enough
That was our commonality
What memory serves
Is obviously selective
So I can understand why you've been
So protective
I just want you to know
It was never my objective
To hurt you
Like the last prospective Mrs.
This is
The last skewed perspective
It's just so bittersweet
That we had to leave things
So incomplete
"The timing was off"
And yet our hearts matched
Beat-for-beat
So if what serves me is truth
I'd stop squandering my youth
Looking for proof
And allow myself the memory
Of you.
